Remanufacturing refers to the professional repair or upgrading of old parts using advanced and applicable processes, technologies, equipment and materials, ensuring that the performance and quality of remanufactured products meet or exceed those of original new products and comply with national mandatory standards for safety, energy conservation, environmental protection, etc. According to calculations by relevant research institutions, compared with manufacturing new products, remanufacturing can save 50% of production costs, reduce energy consumption by 60%, save 70% of materials, and cut emissions by 80%, yielding favorable economic, resource and environmental benefits. Actively developing the remanufacturing industry is an important measure to strengthen comprehensive utilization of industrial resources, and is of great significance for promoting green and low-carbon transformation and high-quality development of industry, as well as advancing the achievement of "dual carbon" goals. Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the *Standards for the Remanufacturing Industry of Electromechanical Products* (hereinafter referred to as the *Standards*). The issuance of this document will play a crucial role in further standardizing industry order, improving industrial technical level, enhancing market recognition of remanufactured products, and promoting high-quality development of China's remanufacturing industry.

Firstly, the *Standards* help improve the technical level of the remanufacturing industry. Compared with developed manufacturing countries, China's remanufacturing industry started late, with room for further improvement in technical level and the need to strengthen large-scale and high-end development. The *Standards* require enterprises to be equipped with necessary equipment for remanufacturing processes, especially encouraging the application of intelligent and digital equipment, and the use of energy-efficient, environmentally friendly and high-efficiency processes, technologies, equipment and materials for remanufacturing. They clarify the development direction of the advanced remanufacturing industry, which will effectively guide technological transformation and equipment upgrading in the industry, and improve the overall technological level of the remanufacturing industry. In addition, the *Standards* specify requirements for the proportion of technical R&D personnel, R&D expenses, and industry-university-research cooperation, promoting the improvement of the remanufacturing industry's technical level from multiple dimensions including equipment, talent and management.

Secondly, the *Standards* help enhance the quality of remanufactured products. The quality of remanufactured products has always been a key concern of consumers and a critical factor for the healthy development of the remanufacturing industry. The *Standards* set clear requirements for quality control, management systems and after-sales services of remanufactured products, requiring enterprises to have legal, compliant and sustainable sources of old parts and establish old part management systems; they should also establish production management account systems for remanufactured products, with complete documents such as product drawings, process files, product technical standards and product quality inspection reports to achieve traceability and queryability. Through these measures, the *Standards* guide remanufacturing enterprises to be more safe and compliant, further improve quality management, and help remanufactured products better meet consumer needs.

Thirdly, the *Standards* help increase market recognition and acceptance of remanufactured products. Compared with developed manufacturing countries, consumer recognition of remanufactured products in China still needs to be improved, due to factors such as consumption concepts and consumers' lack of trust in remanufactured products resulting from insufficient understanding. The release of the *Standards* not only guides remanufacturing enterprises to improve their production capacity and technical level, but also helps more consumers understand the national policy orientation of promoting standardized and high-quality development of the electromechanical product remanufacturing industry, enhancing consumer trust in remanufactured products and creating a favorable market environment for the development of the remanufacturing industry.

The issuance of the *Standards for the Remanufacturing Industry of Electromechanical Products* will help guide more remanufacturing enterprises to strengthen technological innovation, continuously improve the quality of remanufactured products, and gradually form a new market-oriented model for innovative development of the remanufacturing industry. The Machinery Industry Environmental Protection Industry Development Center will actively play its role as a bridge between the government and enterprises, vigorously publicize the *Standards*, actively promote their implementation, and make due contributions to accelerating the transformation and upgrading of China's manufacturing industry towards greenization and promoting green and low-carbon development of China's industry.
